Instant Pizza Dough….almost

I nicked this idea off Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals, well….in 30 minute meals, he created 4-5 dishes but I only made this pizza and garlic bread in 30 mins. I’ve made pizza dough before but it was those with yeast proofing and left overnight in the fridge. In a sense, it was a make-ahead dough but this dough recipe is for when you want pizza right there and then.

Sure I won’t say it is the best pizza dough in the world, but it sure is pretty damn close to a decent one when you’re looking for a quick pizza dinner. I didn’t even bother to make it into a perfect circle or to knead it either. All you need are just the basic flour, olive oil, a pinch of salt and water. Sounds very much like a recipe for flatbread eh? Well, you’re probably right and it does taste close to a flatbread pizza but you still get the crispy edges that’s so synonymous with pizza.

I leave the toppings to you because with pizza, anything is fair game except the kitchen sink. This pizza dinner was a spam pizza, I know…I know…spam is bad for you but we like to indulge once in a while. My husband said it was delish and quite a treat after not having pizza for so long.

INSTANT PIZZA DOUGH RECIPE
Enough to make a pizza for 2 adults

Ingredients;

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
A pinch of salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup water (more or less)
Onion powder (optional)

Steps;

1. In a food processor, put all the ingredients in except the water. Turn it on and while it’s blitzing, pour in the water through the funnel slowly, you might need more or less. Pour the water till you see the dough pulling away from the sides and clumping together into one ball.
2. Spray your pizza pan with some non-stick or butter it. Take the dough, if it’s too sticky, sprinkle some flour on it.
3. With your fingers, press the dough and spread it out on the pan till you have about half a cm thick. You don’t have to make a perfect circle.
4. Put on your sauce, toppings and cheese. Bake in a 200 degree Celcius oven for 15-20 mins.

Note;You can substitute all-purpose flour and baking powder with just one cup of self-raising flour. If you don’t have a pizza pan, use your regular frying pan, wrap layers of foil around the handle to protect it. Recipe for marinara sauce.

Enjoy!
