Pisang Goreng Split!

When I wanted to make this into a dessert dish, my husband was like, ‘But banana split doesn’t have fried bananas on it…..’ Well, duh…..that’s why it’s pisang goreng (banana fritters) split. Hey, maybe I should market this idea and make millions! As I hacked out my master plan, I’m sure a lot of people out there would enjoy fried bananas with cool ice cream. What’s not to love?

The sky’s the limit for the cereal coating. You could use rice crispies, cheerios, even chocolate coated puffs of some sort. You can only find out what it will taste like if you’re brave enough to make it, but for now, I like my cornflakes! 🙂

For us Malaysians, pisang goreng is a common snack or grub for tea. I just had this crazy urge to combine the two (banana split). What can I say? I like to live ‘dangerously’.

PISANG GORENG SPLIT

Ingredients;

Bananas split in halves
Cornflakes, pounded
Oil for frying
Ice cream of any flavour

Frying batter;
1 cup rice flour
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
Water

Steps;

1. Mix all batter ingredients together. Add water till you have a consistency that coats the back of a wooden spoon but still runny.
2. Heat your oil in a pot. Dip your bananas into the batter and then coat it with the crumbled cornflakes.
3. Fry at a medium temp till it’s browned evenly.
4. Eat with ice cream. The number of scoops is up to you! I even drizzled mine with chocolate sauce.

Enjoy!

    Craft Brews has something like that but with chocolate piped inside the bananas before coating and frying. It’s pretty good.
